Competitors- PlayStation, Nintendo /What are the main trends?

In every market there is competition it’s up to the individual companies to ensure they are keeping tabs on each one of their competitors. It’s important that keep tabs on what products they make, not only that they need to make sure they keep an eye one what other investments they make. For example PlayStation announced that were going to make a PS4, this affected Microsoft as PlayStation is one of Microsoft biggest competitor. As soon as this news was announced Microsoft announced they were going to make an Xbox One console, this shows you that the competition is so big they needed to ensure that they weren’t falling behind. On November 19, 2006, Nintendo released the Nintendo Wii this was to keep up with the PS3 and Xbox 360. The Wii is a console that is aimed at keeping families fit. Microsoft recognised this and November 2010 they released the Kinect as the Wii was taken off. This again demonstrates how aware Microsoft is of their competitors and how they react accordingly if they feel they are missing out in area within their market. At that time Microsoft were socially aware that in the UK obesity was high so it make sense if they released a similar product.

In the technology market there are always new products and new trends, this has meant that big technology companies are constantly updating and releasing new product to suit the market. For example the main trend for Microsoft currently are things like gaming consoles and personal tablets. In my opinion desktops have been on a downwards decline in the market. This is because a lot more people are opting to buy personal tablets, this is down to a number of factors. Firstly it’s portable which means you can use it anywhere, secondly it does the same job as a desktop. So for a customer it is a bargain.
